Treatise on future retribution--demand for, and nature of it. Includes consideration of questions and objections. Written by Rev. John W. Haley, M.A., in 1881.
“In the darkness of this lower sphere, men do not see the real nature, the “exceeding sinfulness” of sin. Its ingratitude toward a kind and gracious Benefactor; its injustice toward a wise and holy Lawgiver; its unalterable repugnance to the highest interests of the universe; its meanness, in selfishly evading the holiest duties and responsibilities; its loathsomeness, in staining, smirching, and polluting man’s soul,--all this is seen dimly, or not at all. But when the sinner shall emerge into the clear light of eternity, where all disguises drop off, and everything appears in its true colors, then must come over that guilty soul an overwhelming sense of shame and degradation.”
